The word of Joker is came from of mispronounciation of Juker, name German/Alsatian name for the game Euchre (in German, the "J" sounds as "I" or "Y" so the German and English names should be pronounced similarly).
This card was introduced in the year of 1860 as the highest trumph family card game. It is first mentioned in connection with Euchre in the book /Euchre: How to Play it/ (1886). The book includes a description of a game called Railway Euchre in which a 33rd card is used.
The name Poker is also derived from Joker, where it was first mentioned in American Hoyle in 1875. The book A History of Playing Cards authored by Catherine Perry Hargrave has found the joker earlier from 1862 and 1865. In 1862 the card has tiger on it and label it as "Highest Trumph" while 1865 this card was called "This card takes either Bower" and "Imperial Bower", or "Highest Trump Card". Maybe in Euchre was started invented the Joker Card, not Poker, because part of this confusion on the issue may be due to the fact that both games spread simultaneously northward on the Mississippi. Joker represents as "The Fool" Trumph of Tarot Games. They share the similarities for both appearance and function of that game as "Fool" or "excuse" that can play anytime but you can't win.
