He start playing poker with his family and he learned the card game called Texas Hold'em in University of Wisconsin. Attended in University of Wisconsn, 3 years before dropped out after he win in local poker games. He traveled in Las Vegas 10 times before won in the tables. He often to return in Madison for build a bankroll by working field laborer for Blaine Farms in de-tassling the corn and tilling soil.
He play World of Series Poker(WSOP) and his nickname is Poker Brat because of being temperamental. He is one of the biggest earner in WSOP, he earned $ 6,105,254 and he have 11 bracelets in WSOP. In 1989, he is the youngest winner at age of 24 by defeating the two time defending champion Johnny Chan in WSOP. In 1993 he won 3 bracelets in the same year and 2nd place to finish in that event. Everytime he won in WSOP, he gave his bracelet to his mom, dad, wife, three sisters, brother, 2 sons and closed friends. He keep one bracelet for himself.
He won in Tournament event in WSOP No Limit Hold'em at the year of 1989, 1992, 1993(Three No Limit Hold'em in that year), 1997, 2001, 2003, 2006 and 2007. He earned $ 3,767,327.00 in all No Limit Hold'em Championship.
His Other Poker Tournament Participation
Phil Hellmuth also participated in Late Night Poker. He is season 3 champion of that tournament. In 2005 he won National Heads-Up Poker Champion and he defeated Men Nguyen, Paul Phillips, Huck Seed, Lyle Berman, Antonio Esfandiari and he on the way to finals against Chris Ferguson While trying to repeat in 2006, he lost in the first round to Chip Reese. In 2007, Hellmuth did not play due to the PartyPoker.com Premier League Poker, a British tournament in which he took part. He won four out of his six group matches and eventually finished third in the finals. Hellmuth took part in the 2008 National Heads-Up Poker Championship, losing in the first round to Tom Dwan.
He makes the regular appearance of Poker After Dark as a player and commentator of that tournament. He won in first episode of third season in amount of $ 100,000.00. Two week later he returned and won again in that tournament, he earned another $ 100,000.00. He also play in GSN's cash game show in first and fourth season of High Stakes poker. As of 2009 he earned more than $10,900,000 and he ranked in fourth on the All Time Money List behind of Jamie Gold, Phil Ivey and Daniel Negreanu.
The Poker Brat
Phillip Hellmuth is also known as "Poker Brat" in WSOP for his always like a brat-child-act attitude with a competitive and controversial personality. He won as Player of the Player, the NBC Heads-Up Championships, the European Poker Champions and 50 other major tournament titles. He was elected as Poker Hall of Fame in 2007. He is one of the most recognizable faces on television not only as poker also as Host of NBC, ESPN and Bravo. He is competing coach against Anne Duke of FSN "The Best Damn Poker Show I and II. Since 1998 he has 52 articles in newspaper and he have the title called "Hand of the Week". He wrote about chronicle the amazing pokers hands, stories and lesson from his journey throught the legendary games against the world's most formidabl opponents. His column is syndicated in papers around the world.
